Our systems are used in many ways to improve the processing of food and food by-products that might be adversely affected by contact with oxygen or moisture. Some of the many applications of our systems are in the sparging of juices and wines, blanketing of processing operations and head space replacement in packaging operations.
Nitrogen is an environmentally friendly substance. It is a chemically non-reactive, colorless and odorless gas that comprises 79% of the earth’s atmosphere.
Products: Nitrogen Membranes & NitroSwing PSA® Systems
Membrane generated nitrogen has been used since the early 1990’s to ensure
the highest quality product reaches the market. Whether it is fruits and
vegetables, or flowers and fish, or coffee and tea, or beer and wine, GENERON’S® unique
membrane and systems designs are tailored to meet your stringent demands.
Further, we have delivered millions of pounds of fresh produce to market fresher and better tasting than if it had been transported by conventional methods. Our knowledge of Controlled Atmosphere (CA) and Modified Atmosphere (MAP) transportation and storage have made us a leader in providing customized, economical and space efficient solutions to the food, beverage and flower industries.
Modified Atmosphere Packaging
Many foods including snacks, coffee, meats, and bake goods experience increased shelf life by utilizing a packaging technique with nitrogen-rich atmosphere. This process uses gaseous nitrogen to displace the oxygen in sealed packages and, in turn prevents the growth of bacteria, which has a negative effect on freshness.
Controlled Storage Transportation
To extend the shelf life of fruits and vegetables, nitrogen is now used during storage to displace most of the oxygen in the containers, thereby, slowing down the respiration and deterioration of the food.
Typical applications of Generon membranes and Nitro Swing PSA® for food storage and packaging as well as other perishable goods are:

| NOTE:
Data in this table was determined from a publication of the U.S.
Bureau of Mines. Data was determined by laboratory experiments
conducted at atmospheric temperature and pressure. Vapor-air inert
gas samples were placed in explosion tubes and exposed to a small
spark or open flame. In the absence of reliable data, the U.S.
Bureau of Mines or another recognized authority should be consulted. *General industrial practice seldom uses purities below 95% for these applications. Often higher purities than 95% are utilized based on customer's internal safety standards. |
