July 21, 2026

Generon is pleased to announce its support for the establishment of a National Center for Membrane Research in the United States. Led by the National Laboratory of the Rockies (Dr Abishek Roy), Argonne National Laboratory (Dr Meltem Urgun-Demirtas), and Oak Ridge National Laboratory (Dr Tomonori Saito), the Membrane Engineering for Manufacturing, Benchmarking, Research, Analysis, and Next-Gen Evaluation (MEMBRANE) Center project has been officially launched on July 2nd 2026.
With a $12 million award from the U.S. Department of Energy’s Industrial Technologies Office, the MEMBRANE Center aims to accelerate the advancement of membrane technologies by bridging fundamental research with scalable manufacturing and real-world industrial applications. Generon is proud to contribute its industrial expertise to help translate innovative membrane research into commercially viable solutions.
As key center members and industry technical advisors, Generon’s Principal Membrane Engineers, Fred Coan and Dr Zamidi Ahmad, will collaborate closely with Dr Syed Z. Islam and his team from Oak Ridge National Laboratory in the Module Fabrication & Manufacturing for various applications. Their involvement will focus on advancing membrane performance, manufacturability, and deployment in industrial gas separation applications. Generon looks forward to supporting this national initiative and strengthening the partnership between leading research institutions and America’s top industry players to drive the next generation of membrane technologies.
